Valentino Garavanni may be best known for the classic gowns he has made for several silver screen goddesses to grace their figures down the red carpet, but there is a rock sensibility in this amazing couturier’s heart all right. Enter this Rock series of fragrances, meant to capture the rebel-yell element in all of us. Because couture is all very nice, but sometimes you just want to kick back and let your hair down, don’t you?

His fourth fragrance on the Rock theme is called Rock n’Dreams and like any rock-fan worth his salt would tell you, “Rock is all about dreams, baby”. Thus the new scent is carefree, passionate and meant for the independent spirits who want to choose something light but not unobtrusive for their spring and summer grooming needs. The combination of bright and cuddly peach with less overt notes of vetiver and myrrhone (a modern and sophisticated synthetic replicating ancient scents of myrrh) alongside sensuous musks and romantic vanilla is sure to turn heads. The right ones, we might add.

Luxurious, intense, seductive

The dichotomy of modern girls into partly vivacious idealists and partly tough rockers didn’t escape Italian designer Valentino’s clever eye. In an effort to express this duality he presented them with a fresh yet edgy composition for every fashionista out there: Crystalline roses, the shade of ethereal pink, couple with a distinctive and naughty musky base, form two ends of the spectrum. In the middle there is the playful sweetness of heliotrope (a marzipan-like scent), the greenery of snapped leaves and tartness of blackcurrants with a hint of vanilla and orris, making a delicacy that’s hard to resist whether you shed a tear leafing through Jane Austen’s novels or head-bang to the music of Evanescence.

Valentino's Rock n' Rose Pret a Porter (ready to wear), follow up to the Rock n' Rose and Rock n' Rose Couture scents, is based on the designer's favourite flower, the rose. The rose heart is lovingly surrounded by a blend of bergamot, black currant, cassis, gardenia, muguet, orange blossom, sandalwood, orris, musk, vanilla and heliotrope, creating a vibrant and youthful fragrance that's a little bit rock and a little bit sweet. The scent is so light and elegant that it is in fact "pret a porter" on a daily basis!
